English, Maths & ESOL

English & Maths

Would you like to improve your everyday English & maths skills?

Would you like to work towards a recognised qualification?

Would you like to improve your skills to help your children at school, to feel more confident or to improve your employment prospects?

If English is your first language and you do not have a Level 2 in English or GCSE English at grades A*-C, then we may have the perfect course for you.

We offer Functional Skills exam courses at Levels 1 and 2 as well as short accredited courses from Entry Level 2 that help to improve your skills in a specific area whilst compiling a portfolio of evidence. These include spelling & grammar and reading & writing.

These courses take place during the day and evening depending on availability and demand. Courses are FREE.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses are English language classes designed for people whose first language is not English. Courses are daytime and evening and are delivered across different Havering Adult College centres. There are courses to suit all levels from Pre-Entry to Level 2. All topics covered in the course relate to life and work in the United Kingdom. The courses are designed to help you cope with everyday life, such as helping you with your children, communicating with other people and services and helping you to get a job.

By attending and successfully completing the course you may gain a recognised qualification that is valued in the UK. You will practise English skills and develop your grammar and vocabulary. Most learners will work towards exams in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing.

Most people are eligible to attend an ESOL course to learn and improve their English language skills. People who have lived in the UK for at least three years and have permission to live in the UK; EU/EEA citizens; refugees and asylum seekers are all eligible to attend an ESOL course. Non-eligible people may also attend, however, the fee is different. Please ask our Centre Support team for more information.
