London History: “Tales of the Riverbank” – Old Father Thames

As the River Thames has long provided the main artery in the capital; this course takes you on a fascinating journey through its history. You will explore its ancient origins and settlement on its banks; how it has been the start and end of epic journeys for pilgrims, explorers and adventurers; how it became home to engineering, invention and innovation; and how it has been the scene of both glorious and horrid events. The course also covers the river’s fortifications, barriers, bridges and tunnels, its docks and wharves, its great pageants, great frost fairs, great boat races and great stinks. You will learn about its people too – from famous sea captains and pirates to its watermen and dockers. The course includes two trips to London. The costs of travel and any entry fees are not included in the course fees.

Full Fee: £105.00
