Purpose

Important Notice: 

This Code of Conduct establishes the standards of behaviour expected from all staff, learners, volunteers, visitors, and contractors involved in adult education programmes. It aims to create a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment where everyone can achieve their full potential.

Core Principles

All members of the learning community will: 

    • Treat others with dignity, respect, and courtesy. 
    • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. 
    • Act honestly, professionally, and responsibly. 
    • Support a safe and positive learning environment. 
    • Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others. 
    • Comply with relevant laws, policies, and procedures. 

Learner Code of Conduct

Learners are expected to: 

Attendance and Punctuality 

    • Attend classes, tutorials, and assessments regularly. 
    • Arrive on time and be prepared for learning. 
    • Notify the provider promptly of any absence where possible. 

Respectful Behaviour 

    • Treat staff and fellow learners with courtesy and respect. 
    • Listen to others without interruption. 
    • Use appropriate language at all times. 
    • Respect cultural, religious, and personal differences. 

Learning Environment 

    • Participate positively in learning activities. 
    • Follow instructions provided by tutors and staff. 
    • Avoid behaviour that disrupts learning. 
    • Maintain a clean and tidy learning space. 

Health and Safety 

    • Follow all health and safety requirements. 
    • Report hazards, accidents, or concerns immediately. 
    • Use equipment and facilities safely and responsibly. 

Technology and Online Learning 

    • Use digital platforms appropriately and respectfully. 
    • Protect passwords and personal information. 
    • Refrain from cyberbullying, harassment, or inappropriate online behaviour. 
    • Respect copyright and intellectual property rights. 

Academic Integrity 

    • Complete work honestly and independently unless collaboration is authorised. 
    • Acknowledge sources appropriately. 
    • Avoid plagiarism, cheating, or falsification of records. 

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours are not acceptable for staff or learners: 

    • Bullying, harassment, intimidation, or victimisation. 
    • Discrimination based on age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy, or maternity. 
    • Physical, verbal, or online abuse. 
    • Threatening or aggressive behaviour. 
    • Possession or use of illegal substances. 
    • Attending learning activities under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 
    • Theft, vandalism, or misuse of property. 
    • Sexual misconduct or inappropriate relationships. 
    • Misuse of social media that causes harm to individuals or the organisation. 
    • Breaches of health and safety procedures. 

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

All staff and learners share responsibility for creating a safe environment. 

Everyone must: 

    • Report safeguarding concerns immediately. 
    • Respect personal boundaries. 
    • Support a culture of openness and safety. 
    • Take concerns about abuse, neglect, exploitation, radicalisation, or wellbeing seriously

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The organisation is committed to: 

    • Providing equal opportunities for all. 
    • Valuing diversity and promoting inclusion. 
    • Challenging discrimination and prejudice. 
    • Creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and able to participate fully. 

Complaints and Reporting Concerns

  • Raise concerns promptly and respectfully. 
  • Follow established complaints and grievance procedures. 
  • Cooperate with investigations when required. 
  • Respect confidentiality throughout any process. 

Breaches of the Code

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate action, including: 

    • Informal warning 
    • Formal warning 
    • Behaviour support plan 
    • Temporary suspension 
    • Removal from a course in serious cases 
    • Prevention from enrolling onto a course in the future 

Declaration

All learners are expected to read, understand, and comply with this Code of Conduct. By participating in the organisation’s activities, individuals agree to uphold these standards and contribute positively to the learning community.
