Stories of Hope: Havering Adult College Supports New Suicide Prevention Film Project
At Havering Adult College, we believe education can empower voices, build understanding and strengthen communities. Our latest partnership project does exactly that.
Havering Adult College is proud to have worked alongside Havering Public Health and members of Havering’s Suicide Prevention Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) to help create a powerful series of short films exploring suicide prevention, hope and lived experience.
The project gave LEAG members the opportunity to share their personal stories in their own words, helping to raise awareness of suicide prevention and encourage more open conversations about mental health across our community. Through creativity, collaboration and storytelling, the films highlight the importance of listening, understanding and seeking support when needed.
A special thanks goes to Havering Adult College’s Specialist Teacher Assessor, Lloyd Franklin, who played a key role in bringing the project to life. Lloyd filmed, edited and produced the trailer and films, working closely with LEAG members to ensure their stories were captured with care, authenticity and respect. The project showcases not only the power of lived experience, but also the talent, skills and dedication of our staff.
As a college, we are always looking for opportunities to showcase the talents of our learners and teachers while supporting meaningful community projects. Partnerships such as this provide invaluable opportunities to share skills, develop confidence, build connections and create work that can make a real difference to people’s lives.
Join Us for Stories of Hope
To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, Havering Public Health is hosting a special screening event on 10 September 2026 at Lumiere Cinema, Romford, where the films will be shown as part of an evening of reflection, discussion and community engagement.
The evening will include:
- An exclusive screening of the lived experience films
- A panel discussion with LEAG members and project contributors
- Opportunities for reflection and conversation
- Networking and refreshments
The event is free and open to everyone, including local residents, community groups, carers, professionals and anyone interested in supporting mental wellbeing and suicide prevention.
