Havering Adult College Ofsted Report: A Year of Progress and Positivity
A New Chapter in Adult Learning
At Havering Adult College, we are proud to reflect on a year of transformation and growth. In July 2024, our college received a ‘Requires Improvement’ rating from Ofsted. While this was not the result we aimed for, it marked the beginning of a powerful journey — one that’s brought real and lasting change.
The challenges we faced were significant. The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic impacted adult education across the country. Courses were paused, staff moved on, and many learners were understandably slow to return to the classroom. But we saw these challenges as an opportunity to rebuild and refocus.
Building Back Stronger
In the 2023–24 academic year, learners began returning to college in greater numbers. By 2024–25, we had recruited a strong team of passionate, committed professionals who stepped into key leadership roles. Together, they worked to restructure our curriculum, relaunch vital subject areas, and put our learners’ needs and aspirations at the heart of everything we do.
When Ofsted revisited in July 2024, we were still mid-way through our improvement plans. We knew we weren’t quite at ‘Good’ yet — but we were on the right path. The inspection gave us a valuable outside perspective and helped us sharpen our focus even more.
Real Progress Recognised by Ofsted
We’re now proud to share that in their recent monitoring visit, Ofsted rated us as making “Significant Progress” in three key areas, and “Good Progress” in the fourth. This official recognition reflects the incredible effort of our staff and leadership — and it means even better experiences for our learners.
